What is Rust Life?
The most common question I get asked is "What are you going to paint it?" The thing is, I like the natural look commonly known as patina. A few years back, while at a car show, I saw an antique truck that looked like it just drove off the showroom floor and I asked the guy about it. He said it was his dad's truck. Dad had bought it new, back in the day, and used it a lot around their farm in rural Kansas. He showed me a picture of his Dad in the truck with an old dog in the back. He said that old dog rode with his dad everywhere. He loved to perch in the front of the bed, right over the corner where he could look over the drivers side window. He did it so much that the old dog had worn the paint clean off the bed in that spot and it started to rust. The old dog passed on and eventually so did Dad. And when his son inherited the truck, he decided to restore it back to the day his Dad first bought it. He said he almost hated to see the rust spot from that dog covered up, but he thought it looked nicer today. You see, there's no wrong way to admire the old classics. Everyone has their own ideas, and that's fine. But if that was MY dad's old truck, I'd like the stories its blemishes had to tell, and I'd want to remember that faithful dog riding to town along with dear old Dad. Anyone can buy a showroom truck, and while those are beautiful, I, personally, appreciate the story. I appreciate the dents and the scratches and the rust and the memories they hold and the great stories they tell. If you can relate, maybe you are living the rust life, too!
One of our cars is a 1929 Ford Model A Roadster. This has been a fun project to play around with, but it was fairly complete at the time of purchase. It didn't have an interior when we bought it, so that's been one project, as seen below.

This was a build for a customer. Always nice when they say "Do what you think is cool, I'm sure I'll dig it". I particularly like the way the custom tailgate came out. Really unique but still matches the rustic "rat rod" feel of the truck. If you have ideas and want us to build you a ride, we'd be happy to talk with you.
